Update on Water Supplies in Cork City Friday 31st December 2010

Cork City Council is happy to report significant progress in the restoration of the water supply in the city. There has been a reduction of over 50 per cent in the areas that experienced restricted water supply. This can be attributed to the repair of leaks by Cork City Council staff and by members of the public who have repaired leaks and burst pipes on their own properties. Normal supply and volumes have been restored to city centre premises which will ensure that businesses can trade as normal and that all can enjoy the New Year celebrations over the coming weekend.

While the number of restricted areas has been reduced by 50 per cent, some areas will continue to experience water restrictions over the coming days. Localized outages and restrictions will continue where major leaks are identified. These leaks will be attended to and repaired as quickly as possible by City Council staff on an ongoing basis.

In order to maintain supplies, the City Council will continue night restrictions over a number of areas which have very high leakage levels. These are detailed on the revised  map attached.

Standpipes will continue to be available over the coming weekend.
