Christmas Message from Cllr. Michael O’ Connell, Lord Mayor of Cork

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the people of Cork and those visiting our wonderful city at this time, for however long, a happy, holy and safe Christmas.

Christmas is a time to remember

·         We remember our own childhood and the magic it brought.

·         We remember family, friends, and colleagues who are far away.

·         We remember our neighbours and our friends.

·         We remember our loved ones who are no longer with us and whose presence was at the heart of  previous Christmases.

It is important at all times, but at this time of year especially, that we remember the true spirit of Christmas, that of generosity of spirit and care of those less fortunate than ourselves. In spite of the difficulties we are facing, and they are many, we should remember those less fortunate than ourselves and do our best to help them.

As a Community we give thanks to those in the many services who look after our wellbeing; The Religious, The Health and Welfare service, Para-Medical & Ambulance Service, An Garda Síochána, The Defence Forces, and the many community organisations with their thousands of volunteers continuously giving of their time and efforts for the benefit of others. Their  sacrifice allows us to enjoy the holiday to its fullest.

Nollaig Shona agus Ath-bhliain faoi mhaise daoibh go léir
