Lord Mayor hosts Civic Reception to mark Cllr. Dave McCarthy’s 25 years service as a City Councillor

On Friday August 27th 2010 at 7.30 p.m. the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Michael O’ Connell, and Cork City Council  hosted  a Civic Reception in the Millennium Hall , City Hall, Cork  to honour Councillor Dave McCarthy’s twenty five years as a city councillor. First elected in 1985  representing the city’s North West Ward, Cllr. McCarthy  was the last councillor elected as an Alderman in that ward. Almost 300 people packed into the hall to pay tribute to the popular Northside councillor.

Speaking to the gathering the Lord Mayor stated:

“I am delighted as Lord Mayor to lead this tribute to someone who has given so much of himself for over a quarter of a century to the people of Cork, particularly the people of Knocknaheeny and Hollyhill.  He has been a tireless advocate for the people of his area for all of that time and is fully deserving of the honour”

Responding to the tributes paid by the Lord Mayor and others Cllr. McCarthy added:

“It’s a great honour for me to be here tonight for my 25 years as a public representative and I want to say I enjoyed every minute of it. I would not be here only for you, the people of Cork, the salt of the earth. I‘d be nothing without you.”
