This year marks the centenary of the birth of Professor Aloys Fleischmann.  An exhibition celebrating the life of the renowned composer, conductor, scholar, campaigner, organiser and Freeman of Cork city entitled "Fleischmann, Family and Friends" was launched on 16/2/10 by UCC's Emeritus Professor of Irish History, John A. Murphy in the Central Library, Grand Parade, Cork.

Curated and mounted by Cork City Libraries, the unique exhibition chronicles the remarkable lives of Aloys Fleischmann, his family in Cork and Germany and the family’s wide circle of friends. The exhibition will be on display in the Central Library until April before touring to other libraries and venues in Cork and around the country.

As part of the Fleischmann Centenary Celebrations, Professor John A. Murphy also launched a book, “ The Fleischmanns: A Remarkable Cork Family – A Companion to the Fleischmann Centenary Celebration”. The beautifully illustrated book, with text by Seamus de Barra, Patrick Zuk and Ruth Fleischmann details the life and work of Professor Fleischmann, his father Aloys Senior and his mother Tilly.

To mark the centenary a series of concerts, recitals, exhibitions, dance performances and lectures are taking place in Ireland, Germany, England, America and China throughout 2010.
