Launch of International Women’s Day Charity Concert

On Monday  February 8th 2010, in the Lord Mayor’s Chambers, City Hall, Cork, the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Dara Murphy and Lady Mayoress Tanya Murphy  announced details of a lunchtime charity concert and photographic exhibition in aid of Women of Concern and the Cork Sexual Violence Centre on International Women’s Day (March 8th)

The event will take the form of a lunchtime concert in the Concert Hall, City Hall, Cork featuring the Irish Sopranos accompanied by Cork School Choirs. A supporting photographic exhibition will be held in the adjoining Millennium Hall displaying the work undertaken by Women of Concern globally. Finger food and refreshments will also be served.

International Women's Day (IWD), is celebrated annually on March 8th and is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.  

Speaking at the launch the Lord Mayor Cllr. Murphy stated:

“I was made aware of the wonderful work of the Women of Concern before the recent tragic events in Haiti and of course the Cork Sexual Violence Centre has been providing a very valuable resource and support to the women of Cork for many years. My wife, Tanya, and I hope the people of Cork, who are renowned for their generosity, will use this important date to celebrate the achievements of women globally and to assist organizations such as today’s beneficiaries to continue their valuable work”

Tickets, priced at €20, will go on sale from Tuesday, February 9th and will be available from Pro Musica, St. Oliver Plunkett Street (Mon-Sat) and Brown Thomas, St. Patrick’s Street (Fri and Sat only). The Irish Examiner are media sponsors of the event.
