Cork City Council, following consultation with the HSE, has today (15/1/10) lifted the Boil Water Notice which was imposed earlier in the week. The supply areas to which the notice applied are detailed on the following map

In addition the Boil Water Notice is being lifted for a small number of areas which are adjoining but outside the city boundary. Please refer to the Cork County Council website www.corkcoco.ie  for further information on these areas.

Cork City Council wishes to confirm that normal daytime water supply is being maintained across the city.  In order to safeguard supply pending the repair of existing and emerging leaks, limited night-time supply restrictions are in operation in parts of the city – especially on the northside where major losses have arisen.

The City Council’s intention is to minimise the impact for consumers and so supplies in these areas will be restricted after 8pm and restored in the morning.  While restoration commences at 6am it may take a few hours for supplies to return to properties in elevated areas or to properties with limited storage capacity. While it is expected that restrictions will continue into next week, the areas affected should reduce progressively as leaks are repaired.

The City Council is grateful for the steps taken by the public to conserve water and continues to advise consumers:

·    that it is not necessary to fill baths or hoard water, and

·   that leaks on private property should be repaired as quickly as possible.

Repair crews are carrying out ongoing leak detection and repair work on the mains network and it is envisaged that this will continue throughout the weekend and into next week.

Cork City Council wishes to thank the people of Cork for their patience and co-operation in overcoming the difficulties caused by recent severe weather.
