Festive events continue on Grand Parade this weekend

 

“An Irish Christmas” - a lively Irish music and dancing performance - is topping the bill of entertainment taking place this Sunday, 13th December, as part of the on-going ‘A Christmas Celebration on the Grand Parade, presented by Cork City Council, in association with Bord Gáis Energy’.

Valerie O’Sullivan, Director of Services, Recreation, Amenity and Culture, Cork City Council said: “Swing music filled the air last Sunday as Tuxedo Junction, a 16 piece swing band took to the Grand Parade to the delight of the crowds. After the bad weather on the Saturday brought the temporary closure of events it was great to see everything back on track again on the Sunday and the support of the crowds who came out to enjoy themselves, “she said.

Musical highlights for this weekend include an all female barbershop chorus singing a variety of Christmas classics, a male voice choir who have performed in London’s Albert Hall, a brass band founded over 90 years ago and a An Irish Christmas’.

Cork City Library continue on their festive programme with a life size igloo and a penguin family set up in the foyer and an art installation by children and Cork Art Link, which runs up until December 14th. Characters from Jack and the Beanstalk from Cork Opera House will drop in to read stories in the igloo on Saturday followed by a dramatic production of The Fisherman and his Wife.

A Christmas Celebration on the Grand Parade, presented by Cork City Council in association with Bord Gáis Energy’ runs each weekend up until Sunday 20th December. The Christmas Market on Grand Parade and the ‘Enchanted Forest’ in Bishop Lucey Park run each weekend with exciting musical entertainment being announced weekly.

Visit a life size igloo and a penguin family, an art installation by children and Cork Art Link, until December 14.

11.30am          Christmas colouring competition

3.00pm             Meet some Characters from Jack and the Beanstalk from Cork Opera
House who will read stories in the igloo.

4.15pm            Dramatic production of The Fisherman and his Wife.

 

Music Events

Saturday, 12th December

Champagne Cork - 1 to 2 pm
A Ladies Barbershop Chorus of twenty singing a collection of Christmas Classics.

City of Cork Male Voice Choir – 4 to 5 pm
Founded in 1968, the City of Cork Male Voice Choir with over 50 members have appeared in both in local and national competitions and have made appearances at London's Albert’s Hall. They will be perform a mixture of Christmas Songs.

 

Sunday, 13th December

An Irish Christmas – 2 to 3.30 pm 

Listen to a Traditional Irish Christmas with William Hammond, Cork Folk Festival

St. Nicholas Brass band – 4 to 5 pm

Founded in 1914, St. Nicholas Brass Band has over the years played at many public and charitable events in the city and beyond.  With a membership of 25, the band a wide range of music to suit all tastes.
