Cork’s Lady Mayoress, Tanya Murphy, has invited the people of Cork to join her in supporting Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Hospice by attending a Coffee Morning on Thursday, September 17th 2009 in the Millennium Hall, City Hall, Cork from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. In keeping with the policy that all funds raised locally will stay locally, all proceeds from this event will go to Marymount Hospice, Wellington Road, Cork.

Speaking in advance of the event the Lady Mayoress acknowledged the contribution made by the hospice to the people of Cork and encouraged all Cork people to come to the Millennium Hall to support the event:

“Marymount Hospice is a much valued institution in Cork city.  I doubt if there is anyone who does not know of a family, friend, neighbour or work colleague who has not availed of the services provided by the staff there. Whether it is the specialist palliative care provided by Marymount Hospice or the long stay/continuing care and respite care for older people in St. Patrick’s, all lives are touched by the work carried on there.

This year I wanted to throw the doors of Millennium Hall open to the public in a more informal way. I’d like everybody who is thinking of supporting this important national event just for this morning, and just for this cup of tea or coffee, to skip your usual coffee place and come to City Hall instead”

The Lady Mayoress also acknowledged the support of the business community in Cork in supporting the event annually and expressed her wish that the people of Cork would support the event as fully as they had in the past and raise much needed funds for the organisation.
