Shanghai Delegation of Transport Experts

The Lord Mayor Cllr. Dara Murphy recieved a delegation of transport experts from Shanghai  who were accompanied by transport specialists from ireland including Ian Winning (2nd from left, front row) Senior Executive Engineer,Traffic Division ,Cork City Council (2nd from left front row).

A very interesting exchange of views occurred between  the delegation from Shanghai and Traffic Division staff for Cork city. The group representing the Transport and Port Authority and one of the public bus companies in Shanghai were in Ireland to visit Cork and Dublin following on from a visit to Transport for London.

The difference in scale of operations was evident when we realized that this bus company operated a fleet of more than 9,000 vehicles and that this was just 1 of 4 bus companies in Shanghai !  However, many of the same concerns such as the need for priorities and the options available for bus priorities were discussed.

The presentation on Park & Ride by the Traffic Division was arranged and was followed by a visit to the Black Ash facility. The delegation stated that they regarded “Park & Ride as a very advanced service which they were particularly interested in”. Detailed costings on the Black Ash construction and the key features of Park & Ride, especially regarding the level of service being provided by Cork City Council, were discussed in detail.

The visit on Wednesday the 1st July was arranged by Sean O’Sullivan, Avego, Kinsale following an initial contact by Enterprise Ireland and the Lord Mayor gave an official welcome to the Shanghai delegates.
