Lord Mayor’s Musical City Programme
Music will fill the air of Cork during the summer months. Lord Mayor Cllr. Brian Bermingham launched the Lord Mayor’s Musical City Programme in company of the First Southern Brigade Band by the City Library on the Grand Parade at 1 pm, Thursday, 4th June 2009.
Over the summer months bands from across the city and county will perform for free for the public throughout the city. Cork has a rich tradition of music and these bands and performers are dedicated to keeping this a vibrant and evolving part of our cultural life.
‘I would like to thank all of the musicians, bands and individuals who helped to make these performances a reality. Their generosity and talent will help to bring the city alive in the summer’, said the Lord Mayor.
Performers include the Band of the First Southern Brigade, the Butter Exchange Band, the Barrack Street Band, the Fermoy Concert Band, Leichardt Brass Band from Germany, St. Nicholas Brass Band, Mayfield Brass Band and the Ipswich Hospital Band.
Speaking in advance of the launch the City Manager Joe Gavin said; ‘Cork has invested in our streets and buildings, but also in our people and our culture. Events such as these showcase the city in all of its rich variety.’
Other events organised through the Lord Mayor’s Musical City Initiative include a concert by the Band of the First Southern Brigade and a Remembrance Concert in Cork’s City Hall.
