On Monday, 23rd March 2009 The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Brian Bermingham extended an invitation through the IRFU to the Irish Rugby Team to a Civic Reception in their honour in City Hall, Cork at the team’s earliest available opportunity.
Lord Mayor Cllr Brian Bermingham stated:
“I’m delighted both as an individual and as First Citizen with Saturday’s historic Grand Slam victory. I am especially proud of the contribution made by Cork players and the Team Coach, Declan Kidney, for the dedicated and patient manner in which they achieved their victory.
I have extended an invitation this morning to the IRFU to host and congratulate the team at a Civic Reception here in City Hall at the earliest available opportunity. In a time when good news is hard to come by, Saturday’s victory gave all of us a reason to cheer and forget, even for a while, our worries and anxieties.
Well done and thank you to the entire squad and backroom team “
