The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Brian Bermingham and Cork City Council hosted a Civic Reception in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Cork for the Donal Ring Céilí Band in recognition of the Band’s 50th anniversary.

The Lord Mayor paid tribute to the band’s long involvement in the entertainment industry  and made reference to the broad appeal of the band in times of strong competition “Many fine Céilí Bands existed during the 1950s, among them the Kilfenora Céilí Band and others, who at the time rivalled, and in many cases surpassed, the fame and popularity of the Showbands who were on the circuit at the time. The Donal Ring Céilí Band stood proudly among the nation’s best entertainers at that time and since.  You and your equally talented colleagues carved a niche which, though inspired from an eclectic mix of musical influences, created an identity which was uniquely your own.”

The Lord Mayor concluded by thanking Donal and his fellow musicians for the 50 years of enjoyment they had provided to audiences far and wide and wish them continued health and success.
