Dunnes Stores  Restoration of Ringmahon House 

Cork City Manager, Joe Gavin,  Dr. Margaret Heffernan and Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Brian Bermingham, at a  Reception in  Ringmahon House examining a brass plaque erected to acknowledge the support of Dunnes Stores in the restoration of Ringmahon House in Blackrock as a Community Resource.   


 Dr.  Heffernan was a guest of honour at Ringmahon House on Tuesday 30th September, 2008 in acknowledgment of the generous support of Dunnes Stores in the restoration of Ringmahon House.  The City Manager, Joe Gavin and Lord Mayor Brian Bermingham walked guests through the former childhood home of the Dunne family.  Dr. Heffernan is a daughter of Ben Dunne Snr.and the Dunne family were resident there from the mid 1940s.

The restored Ringmahon House will function as a community resource with a strong emphasis on provision for the elderly.  Ringmahon House will also provide services and training for the youth.  Cork VEC will locate a Youth Outreach Programme in the house with a range of services being provided for young people.  A total of 16 units of accommodation for senior citizens has been constructed beside Ringmahon House and Cork City Council will work closely with SHARE in providing support services for the elderly.
