Cork City Council hosts Civic Reception for Muskerry Golf Club

Muskerry pictureThe Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Donal Counihan and Cork City Council, hosted a Civic Reception in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Cork on Tuesday, 11th December 2007 for Muskerry Golf Club to mark the Club’s achievement on winning the Irish Junior Cup and the Jimmy Bruen Shield in their Centenary Year of 2007.

Speaking at the Reception the Lord Mayor paid tribute to Muskerry Golf Club’s long and distinguished history “but even by your own high standards, 2007 must rate as a highlight.”

“Muskerry Golf Course is now considered to be one of the top 18 hole parkland courses in Munster, if not in all Ireland.  Nestling in beautiful parkland close to the village of Tower, it offers golfers the opportunity to sample golf over natural terrain, natural hazards as well a bringing many mature trees into play.”

He continued: “Reflection on the round throws up the startling realization that no two holes throughout the course are even remotely alike and leaves little cause for wonderment that James Bruen, the last Amateur to lead the Professionals in the qualifying rounds of the British Open Championship (1939), was a Muskerry man!”

“I congratulate you on your achievements this year and wish the club continued success into the future.”
