Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway officially opening the Rhythm of Light Exhibition


The Rhythm of Light is an exhibition of contemporary Norwegian jewellery specially curated to mark the state visit to Ireland of Their Majesties King
Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway. Ten Norwegian jewellers, working mainly in silver, celebrate wearability and sensuality in this beautiful exhibition. The exhibition was take place in the Dalton Gallery and will run until October 21st 2006.

The Queen officially opened the exhibition. Amongst those in attendance were the Lord Mayor Cllr. Michael Ahern, the City Manager Joe Gavin, Minister Batt O’Keeffe, TDs John Dennehy and Kathleen Lynch, many councillors and various members of Cork’s intellectual and business communities.


The last royal visit to Fitzgerald Park was by King Edward VII and his wife Queen Alexandria during the International Exhibition in 1903. During their stay the English Monarch and his wife dined in the old museum building. Now 103 years on, Cork Public Museum is proud to be able to host another royal visit.
