The Lord Mayor, Cllr. Michael Ahern, launched two new Cork City Council initiatives on Tuesday, 12th December 2006 at Edel House, Grattan Street, Cork, namely the Cork Homeless Directory and the Cork LINK Integrated IT System.
The introduction of the Homeless Directory for Cork will ensure that the services and information are accessible and relevant to homeless persons and delivered in a co-ordinated manner. The Directory will provide a key referral tool for advice centres, hostel workers, social service department, Garda and agencies that are in contact with homeless people or those at risk of becoming homeless.

The LINK Integrated IT System will record information about people using the homeless services in Cork, and was identified as an important development by the Lord Mayor "Being homeless should not lead to further lack of privacy or personal integrity." LINK will allow for support services to monitor the work they carry out, the key outcomes and effectiveness for their service users and to co-ordinate work between agencies, focus work and avoid duplication.
The Cork Homeless Directory and the LINK system were developed by Resource Information Systems, a London-based specialist information charity. The LINK system will be piloted by the Good Shepherd Services at Edel House. Copies of the Directory are available from Cork City Council, Homeless Office, Housing and Community, Central Fire Station Anglesea St.
