Civic Reception for St Finbarr's Senior Camogie Team

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Michael Ahern, and Cork City Council today (Thursday 18th January 2007) at 7.30 p.m. hosted a Civic Reception in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Cork for the victorious St. Finbarr's Senior Camogie Team, winners of the 2006 Cork County Senior Camogie Championship.

"You have by your achievement put the St. Finbarr's Club on a new level by uniquely winning Senior County Championships now in the three codes of hurling, football and Camogie. You have also completed a cycle of winning first titles in each code across three centuries. You followed the Barrs Hurling team who won their first county title in 1899 and the footballers who won theirs in 1956 by winning the 2006 title in Camogie".

In concluding, the Lord Mayor also paid tribute to the back-room team who, he said, were the driving force behind all victorious teams "On your behalf I would like to thank your selectors, mentors, trainers, and last but not least your families, for the support, advice and encouragement they have given and continue to give you. May you all continue to enjoy the game and continue to be successful" he added.
