Notice of water disruption

09/06/'06 @ 10.30 a.m

Cork City Council has responsibility for approx 400 miles of watermain, which supplies approx 13 million gallons of water to the city 365 days of the year.

Last night (Thursday, 8th June) @ 9.00pm, a large diameter watermain in Church Street, near Shandon Street, ruptured . Within 45 minutes the watermain was shut off. Water was then channelled from other supply areas to the affected areas. During this process a second large diameter watermain ruptured in Military Hill at 2.00am.

Two separate Cork City Council crews are currently carrying out repair works to the two watermains.

Water supply is disrupted in the following areas:

Ballyvolane, Old Youghal Road, Ballyhooley Road, Rathmore Road, Wellington Road, Middle Glanmire Road.

Cork City Council is requesting people in areas of the city not affected to use water sparingly and avoid use for gardens, washing cars etc.

Every effort is being made to keep disruption to a minimum and to restore the supply to the affected areas as soon as possible.

Any members of the public who may be critically dependent on water such as home dialysis users, nursing homes etc., please telephone Cork City Council’s Water Services Section 4924145

A further update will issue later today. Tune into local radio stations.
