Lord Mayor pays tribute to Cllr David McCarthy(R.I.P.)

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Michael O’ Connell, today paid tribute to his personal friend and colleague Cllr. Dave McCarthy – “It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Cllr. Dave McCarthy, former Lord Mayor of Cork. Dave was a Man of the People, and an outstanding elected Public Representative and in 2010 celebrated 25 years as a City Councillor.

Politics is all about community and there are few people who were as involved in the community outside of politics as Dave was. Be it his commitment to his church St. Mary’s on The Hill or his lifelong membership with St. Vincent’s Hurling and Football Club. I have had the good fortune to serve as a fellow Ward Colleague in the North West Ward with Dave over the years and to follow in his footsteps as Lord Mayor of our great City. Dave will be sadly missed by the people of Cork.

On my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Cork North West, and the people of Cork, I wish to convey my deepest sympathy to his wife Frances, and sons Arthur and David and extended family. A Special Meeting of Cork City Council will be held on Thursday 14th April at 10.30 a.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall before Requiem Mass at 12 noon in St. Mary’s on the Hill Church, Knocknaheeny."
