Burst water main in the area of the Fever Hospital Steps.

Cork City Council wishes to advise that at 2.48am this morning, it was notified of a burst water main in the area of the Fever Hospital Steps.  Emergency services responded immediately, with fire crews at the scene within minutes.  Water services personnel, the Gardai and the HSE also responded.

14 houses are affected at present, with 29 people evacuated from their homes.  Cork City Council will offer emergency alternative accommodation, in the locality, to those affected, and arrangements for this is at present underway.

Diversions are in place in the area, and the situation is now contained.

At present, water supply is unaffected, as the Council Water Services staff is diverting water to ensure continuous supply in the area.  The Council is in the process of assessing the full extent of the damage and repairs are commencing.  Any inconvenience caused to the public is regretted.
