Lord Mayor dedicates EQUILIBRIO

Eqilibrio Launch

Pictured at the dedication of the Equilibrio installation at Montenotte House are (L to R) Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Dara Murphy, Vice Mayor of Cologne Mrs. Elfi Scho-Antwerpes, Lady Mayoress Tanya Murphy and Ms. Maura Nash, Chief Executive, COPE Foundation.

On Thursday 18th February 2010, in the  grounds of Montenotte House at the COPE Foundation, Montenotte, Cork, the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Dara Murphy, attended a dedication ceremony marking the artists involved in the EQUILIBRIO installation located there. This installation by the artist Rolf Schaffner is one of a series of 5 such pieces, each marking a place with a special history and the artist’s vision of balance equilibrium between the planet and its inhabitants. The sculptor has named the pieces Meridians of Peace and the Cork installation forms the most westerly point of the series, the others being Trondheim (Norway), Cologne (Germany), Santanyi (Spain) and Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad, Russia).

Speaking at the ceremony the Lord Mayor stated “I’m delighted that Cork was chosen as a link in such an important project. I commend the artist for his dedication and commitment to the project and for his obvious commitment to his ideals. I would like also to acknowledge the Cork City Council’s Recreation, Amenity and Culture Directorate whose Parks Capital Team worked so closely with the artist’s family to achieve his aim. The fact that the project is in collaboration with Cologne, a city with which Cork has been twinned since 1988, is an added bonus.”
