“Meet the Engineers” Family Fun Day at Old Cork Waterworks

Old Cork Waterworks will host a family fun Engineering open Day on Sunday March 3rd from 11am to 4pm. Admission is free and children and adults can enjoy a series of stands and activities which will help discover more about the many different types of engineering.

Activities will include programming VEX robots, LEGO construction challenges, snap circuits, engineering trails, make & do and lots more with all activities staffed by volunteer engineers.

Old Cork Waterworks manager Mervyn Horgan said “The theme of Engineers Week 2019 is Engineering our Future and what better way to encourage an understanding of the many engineering disciplines than a free open day with engineers running family friendly activities” He further added adding “We have had a great response from like minded companies in Cork and will have activities from environmental to electrical and structural to civil engineering with plenty of hands on fun”.

Caroline Spillane Director General, Engineers Ireland states “Students of engineering develop an invaluable set of skills that serve as a strong career foundation and it is important that we educate students and parents about the opportunities in engineering. Engineers Week allows us to engage and spark enthusiasm for engineering, I encourage everyone to try and come along to at least one event during the week.”

When asked about the weather spoiling the day Mervyn replied “The fun will happen inside as well as outdoors and with activities spread across our four Victorian buildings plus our own marquee, so we are well prepared”
