The Discovery Science Festival is the key event of Science Week Ireland in Cork, with a schedule spanning a fortnight of shows, workshops to schools and family activities. Key participants including CIT, UCC, Pharmachemical Ireland, Cork Electronic Industry Association, Lifetime Lab and the Tyndall National Institute have been planning another great festival this year. Two weeks of workshops and shows to schools are planned again this year, while the central event of the festival is the annual four-day City Hall exhibition - an interactive showcase of the best Cork has to offer in STEM education, research and business.
Some of the very top pharmaceutical and IT companies in the world have bases in Cork. Research and education in Cork in science and technology is also very strong. Showing the breadth of education and career options to students as they come through school shows them what options exist without even leaving their home city. This will help ensure a future skills pool for those businesses, a vital part of the local economy.
