The Lord Mayor of

Women of many different nationalities who were present to celebrate International Women’s Day
Speaking at the event the Lord Mayor praised and congratulated the women of Cork for the contribution they make to the civic, business and community life of the city: “Cork City Council has for some years, regardless of gender of the Lord Mayor, marked International Women’s Day with a Civic Reception to acknowledge the immense contribution the women of Cork have made to society in general and to the voluntary sector, artistic, business and sporting life of the city in particular.”
Lady Mayoress, Elma Bermingham was also strong in her praise: “I see at first hand at events throughout the year, the contribution made by the women of Cork to all manner of organizations and feel it is only fitting we acknowledge this by marking this significant international day of celebration.”
This year’s Guest Speaker was Professor Caroline Fennell, Professor of Law at UCC who has published extensively on matters relating to Criminal and Labour Law.
